Made in England for over 100 years, these traditional cricket socks are rich in beautiful wool for natural warmth. Extremely thick and chunky, this pair of men’s cricket socks are fully cushioned on the foot and leg for unbelievable comfort. Fantastic for that extra protection to your feet in the modern day cricket boots and as walking socks too.
You would be wrong in thinking that white is the established colour of cricket socks. It is actually cricket lilac that is the traditional colour of cricket socks. Why lilac? In an attempt to prevent foot rot, which was rife during the great war, soldiers covered their feet in antibacterial powder which subsequently turned their socks a lilac colour.
After the war soldiers found their heavy weight army socks to be perfect for cricket so began wearing these lilac coloured socks when playing. Manufacturers then started producing cricket socks in this lilac colour and this is now the time honoured colour of cricket socks.
Sadly they seemed to disappear from the market for quite some time. I and my professional playing colleagues used them as a matter of course in the 80s and 90s as one of the major bat companies provided them worldwide to the professionals cricketers. After searching for a long time we have managed to find the same company that produced these socks and happily they are Made in England.
